Taking Textiles Further
Textiles and mixed media for confident stitchers.
Increase your knowledge of the amazing range of materials and techniques used to create modern textiles. We will push your skills in many areas, experimenting and having fun with surfaces, stitches, paint, paper and more. This is a course for those already experienced in free motion machine stitching and with some previous history of textile art or crafts.
The sessions will be weekly apart from occasional times during the year when Alysn is working away. These dates will be well advised in advance.

Venue: The Belgrave Room, Knightsbridge Village, 21 Graham Collins Drive, North Shore City, NZ 0632. Easily accessible, just off the East Coast Road near to Rangitoto College. When you enter the complex park in the visitors car park, go into the reception and take the lift one floor down. The room is light and spacious with plenty of tables, chairs, power points and water – perfect for you to spread out, relax and get on with your work.

Stains and Discards are my current obsessions. For these workshops we will take visual inspiration from the hulls of the discarded, encrusted and peeling remnants of fishing boats seen on almost any journey to a shore, canal sidings or docks. We will explore the colours and textures found here using a combination of paper, metal, metal cloth, gilding, wire and fibre, colouring techniques such as reactive paints, texture gels, sprays and patinas; structural techniques including layering, wiring, weave, stitch (hand or machine) and more.
